WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?
A chemical peel is a technique to improve and smooth the texture of the skin. Peels are used to treat wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, skin discoloration, age spots, dull skin texture, and mild acne scars. Chemical peels can also be used on other parts of the body, such as the neck, chest, and hands.
HOW DOES A CHEMICAL PEEL WORK?
The procedure involves applying a chemical solution to remove the outer layers of skin. This stimulates new skin growth. The new skin is usually smoother, less wrinkled, and more even in color. Chemical peels may produce reddening and peeling similar to sunburn. This typically lasts a few days to several weeks, depending on the strength and depth of the chemical peel.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY APPOINTMENT?
Every skin type is different and chemical peels come in varying strengths and provide different levels of treatment. To see which chemical peel is right for you, we recommend you schedule a consultation to address your individual skin needs.
During the procedure, a chemical solution is applied to the skin. As this solution dries, you may feel a burning or tingling sensation, depending on the depth and type of peel you are receiving. The entire process usually takes under an hour to complete.
HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST?
After your treatment, your skin may experience reddening and peeling similar to sunburn. This typically lasts a few days to several weeks, depending on the strength and depth of the chemical peel. The new skin is usually smoother, less wrinkled, and more even in color. Keep in mind that the peeling process usually takes a few days to begin and does not immediately start.
The results from your chemical peel can last up to several months. Typically, the deeper the peel, the longer it could last. However if you are in the sun often, it could damage the effects and the duration of benefits you have received from the peels. Depending on the type of peel you choose, your provider can work with you to establish a treatment plan that would help you maximize your results.
